London City Airport Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to https://www.londoncityairport.com/.

We are committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities who require additional access support. Resources have been dedicated to enhancing the website's user-friendliness and accessibility, driven by the aligned mission with our accessibility partner, Recite Me, guided by the belief that every individual deserves equal access to experience and engage with digital content.

1.1 Measures to support accessibility

We are actively working to ensure accessibility by:

  • Including accessibility within our mission statement.

  • Including accessibility throughout our internal policies.

  • Integrating accessibility into our procurement practices.

  • Using tools such as the Recite Me Accessibility Checker to identify and address limitations.

1.2 Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website aims to conform with WCAG 2.2 level AA.

1.3 Accessibility Efforts & Disclaimer

We remain dedicated to the ongoing enhancement and continuous improvement of the accessibility of our website and services. This commitment is rooted in the belief that ensuring a smooth, inclusive, and unrestricted experience for individuals with disabilities is a shared ethical responsibility.

Whilst most pages are accessible, some areas may not yet fully meet our standards due to the content being reviewed, components outside of our direct control or not having yet identified the most suitable fix to improve a user's experience. We are actively working to resolve these issues and welcome your feedback.

1.4 Using our site

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. We provide an assistive technology, enabling all website visitors to customise their experience through a range of options to suit their online accessibility and language needs.

The Recite Me toolbar provides text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices and many other features.

1.5 Known limitations

Whilst we try to maintain a high standard of accessibility on our website, there are some known limitations. These are documented below.

PDF Documents:

  • Some older PDF files may not be fully accessible to screen reader users.

  • This includes documents that are not tagged correctly or lack proper headings and text descriptions.

Multimedia Content:

  • Videos or audio files might lack captions, transcripts, or audio descriptions, making them less accessible to users with hearing or visual impairments.

Interactive Maps and Live Flight Information:

  • Some interactive content, such as maps and live flight data, may not be fully navigable using a keyboard or screen reader.

Third-party Content:

  • Certain services or tools embedded in our website (e.g. social media feeds and flight booking forms) are provided by third parties and may not fully meet accessibility standards.

1.6 Non-accessible content

Below we have listed where the London City Airport website is reporting non-accessible issues in regard to single A and double AA WCAG success criteria.

A – 4.1.2 - Each interactive element i.e. headings, labels should have an accessible name.

This has been addressed by adding labels to allow assistive technology to correctly read these elements.

Other problems flagged in the checker under WCAG A 4.1.2 are out of our control due to being third-party elements.

A - 2.1.1 - You should be able to navigate using a keyboard only.

This has been addressed by adding labels to allow assistive technology to correctly read these elements.

A – 1.1.1 - Images should have alt text, if the image is decorative it should be marked up accordingly.

A – 3.2.2 - Users should be warned beforehand if content is going to be changed based on the user's input

A – 1.3.3 - Content / components should not be referred to via colour, size, position shape only.

A – 1.4.2 - If you have audio playing for 3 seconds or more, it can be stopped or controlled.

A – 2.4.3 - Tabbing order should be from top to bottom then left to right as you navigate through the page using the keyboard tab.

AA – 1.4.3 - For large text contrast should be 3:1 over 24 px or bold and size 19px. Else it should be 4.5 to 1 ratio. Use a manual contrast checker here.
